Riuh Raya Leeds : A Home Away From Home
On 6th April 2025, the Woodsley Community Centre came alive as MSCL and LUMSoc collaborated to host a heartwarming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. From the moment guests stepped in, the hall was filled with the savory aroma of Malaysian dishes, the sound of non-stop Raya tunes, and joyful laughter from all corners of the room.
The spread of food deserves its own spotlight! The menu was a nostalgic feast: Nasi Minyak paired with juicy Ayam Masak Merah, Satay, Laksa, Cendol, a sweet spread of desserts and kuih muih, and not to forget the delicious Teh Tarik.
Of course, what's Hari Raya without some thrilling games? The kids warmed up by playing the classic Malaysian traditional games — batu seremban and ceper. To make things more chaotic and fun, they played the In & Out game. It truly wasn’t easy to choose the best among the super-competitive little players! The musical chair showdown was definetely the highlight of the day, not just for the kids, but also for the adults. Everyone gathered to watch the chaos unfold, and the hall echoed with laughter and cheers. It was a moment of pure joy and truly made the day a memorable one. Winners were rewarded with small goodie bags, packed with a variety of chocolates and candies.
To close off the day, we rolled out our lucky draw prize-giving session. From sweet delights to practical goodies like gift cards, every chosen winner walked away with a big smile on their face.
Altogether, Riuh Raya was more than just an Eid celebration — we send our greatest appreciation to MSCL and to any members who volunteered to help make this event a success.
"Being away from home doesn’t mean missing out on the joy of Raya — it just means bringing that joy to where we are."
The Path to Professional Services: Still Trendy?
On 7th April 2025, we had the pleasure of welcoming a special guest, PwC Malaysia, to the University of Leeds for an exclusive career-sharing session with the students. This collaborative event offered students a platform to explore evolving industry trends and gain insider guidance on navigating careers in professional services.
We were joined by two amazing speakers representing PwC Malaysia — Mr. Kent, Senior Manager and Early Careers and Campus Engagement Lead, as well as Miss Mona, The Talent Acquisition Lead, who didn’t just share expert recruitment insights, but also gave us plenty practical advice on career pathways, and helped attendees reflect on their next steps with greater clarity.
Following the event, everyone enjoyed a sweet spread of kuih-muih, and attendees brought home complimentary PwC merchandise — a thoughtful touch that made the event even more memorable.
A warm thank you to PwC Malaysia for coming to visit Leeds and supporting our students’ career journeys. We look forward to having more events like this in the future.
